Christmas Jammies Bunny

The bunnies were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of carrot-cake danced in their heads. In anticipation of Santa Bunny arriving soon, this little bunny has got her Christmas jammies and favorite teddy with her! She’ll be sure to be fast asleep this Christmas Eve, in hopes of a stocking full of treats and toys come Christmas morning.

Other Notes:

Magic Ring alternative- If you do not feel comfortable doing a magic ring, you can also chain 2 and work the indicated number of stitches into the first chain.

Continuous Rounds– Each row is completed in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated.

Teddy Sizing– The teddy pictured was created using a light weight yarn and 2.5 mm hook to make him smaller than the bunny. The bunny seated from bum to the top of his head is 4.5 inches, whereas the bear is 3 inches high seated. Using a 3.5 mm hook and worsted weight the bear following the same pattern is just over 4 inches when seated.

Colour Change– When changing from one colour to another, in your final SC stitch after you have 2 loops on your hook, pull through with your new colour. In the next stitch of the next row, a SL ST is worked as it creates a more seamless colour change that is not as obvious.  Leave the green yarn attached when you switch to the red on the belt so you can more easily switch back to green without reattaching. When sewing the head and body together, you might consider sewing so that the colour change is on the back-this way you can sew the bunny tail where the change occurs to make it less obvious.

Bunny Pattern:

Head:

In fur colour yarn:

R1: 6 SC into MR (6 st)

R2: INC SC around (12 st)

R3: (SC, INC SC) x6 (18 st)

R4: (2 SC, INC SC) x6 (24 st)

Place 10 mm eyes between R10 &11, 5 st apart. If you wish to sew on eyelashes, do not add washers to the back of the safety eyes yet! Remove the eyes once you like their placement, using embroidery thread, sew on two or three eyelashes for each eye, starting where the safety eyes will go and out on an angle. Make sure they are long enough otherwise they will be hidden by the eyes.

Reinsert the eyes and add washers to the back.

SL ST to first stitch of previous round and FO, leaving a long tail for sewing and set aside.

Snowflakes:

Using white embroidery thread and a needle, sew a series of snowflakes onto your body, arms and legs in a variety of sizes, evenly spread out. To make the snowflakes, insert your needle into the body/arm/leg and come out where you want your first snowflake to start, making sure to pull through far enough so the thread is hidden within the body part. Insert your needle where you would like the first arm of your snowflake to end, and come out again where you want the next arm of the snowflake to start. Repeat for a total of 3 lines over top of each other to form each snowflake. Repeat as many times as you would like for the number of snowflakes you would like to have on your jammies!

Now, add an optional button to where you want the front of the body to be with some thread and a needle. You can now sew the head, arms, legs and tail in place, using pins to help place them before sewing on.

Pillow Pattern:

CH 2 does NOT count as a stitch. You can add more to the starting chain or additional rows to make the pillow larger if you so wish!

R2-12: Turn, CH 2. 10 HDC across (10 ST)

Leaving the yarn attached, fold the rectangle that has been created in half and SC evenly across the 3 open sides, making sure to SC 2-3 stitches in each corner. Before you finish your SC on the final side, add some stuffing. FO and weave in the ends.
