If you are like me, you are probably a huge fan of Stephanie aka ‘All About Ami’ and her amazing patterns! I have made quite a few of her designs, finding her patterns to be easy to follow and so beautiful! She has a great mix of amigurumi and clothing-both crocheted an knit. I have my eye on quite a few of her patterns to make!
If you read my recent blog post, you’ll know that I am trying to work on better balancing my time between my different projects and doing things for myself. The first pattern that I made ‘just for me’ was All About Ami’s pony pattern, styled after the Pokémon ‘Ponyta!’ I had admired this pattern for quite a while, but after seeing another Instagrammer and Pokemon fan use it to make a Ponyta, I was sold, and had to make it immediately!
A Well Written Pattern
This Pony pattern, which you can find here is fantastic! It is easy to follow, beginner friendly, and has a great photo tutorial for sewing the mane and body parts together (definitely follow her recommendation of constructing the mane first before sewing it to the head, it makes it MUCH easier!). This pattern calls for a 2.00 mm hook, but as it uses worsted weight, you can easily go up a few hook sizes without worrying about stuffing showing through the stitches! I ended up using a 2.75 for mine.
One of the things that really draws me to an amigurumi pattern is whether I can add something to make it my own. With the use of different colour choices for your yarn, this pattern is so easy to adapt to fit your personal needs and wants. The original pattern uses off-white and coral yarn, but any combination of colours would look great!
To make my Ponyta, I used my old faithful, Impeccable by Loops and Threads from Michaels. For the main body, I used Aran, and Classic Gray for the hooves. I used a combination of Butterscotch, Claret and Pumpkin for the mane and tail.
Every Ponyta Needs a Friend!
I ended up love this pattern for my little Ponyta so much, that I decided to make a Shiny Ponyta as well! For those of you who aren’t Pokemon fans, a shiny Pokémon is a rare Pokémon with alternative colourings to what would usually find in the game. While Ponyta usually has a fiery mane and tail, it’s shiny counterpart has a dark blue mane and tail (I used Royal for the blue and it was just the perfect shade). Don’t they look like the perfect pals?
