One of my goals in the last year or two has been to learn how to knit. I’ve worked through a few patterns now, and am finally feeling like a proficient ‘knitter’ (but still very much a beginner in complexity)!

One of my favourite parts of knitting and crocheting has been getting to know about various designers. One of my absolute faves has to be Modesty By Laura. Laura’s designs are stunningly beautiful, delicate, and she as a person is so kind hearted and genuine! I have admired her knit projects for a long time now, but when she came out with her La Vie En Rose Shawl, I knew I needed to make it. So much so that I immediately went to Michael’s to by the yarn! Now, onto the pattern!

The La Vie En Rose Shawl is a wonderfully written pattern, straight forward and easy to make larger if you do so wish (I love when designers include notes on how to increase the size of wearables and blankets!). The called for yarn is Caron Latte Cakes, and the standard pattern uses one skein (this would look fabulous as a larger piece too, and I’m very tempted to grab 2 skeins to make a second, bigger shawl).

I’ll admit that I had some initial trepidation about this furry looking yarn, but it is a breeze to work with, and SO. SOFT. Oh my goodness! I’m itching to work with it again because it really is that lovely. Bravo Yarnspirations! I chose the colorway Blueberry, but there are so many gorgeous color choices in this line of yarn.

I used my Clover Takumi Interchangeable Knitting Needles for this project. While it certainly do not require circular needles, I’m using them for all of my knitting projects now as they are so nice to work with!

The pattern itself is great for sitting in front of the tv and watching a good movie or show, due to its repetitive nature. This is also a great introduction to lacing, and gives the shawl a touch of delicacy. The striping of the yarn looks lovely with this pattern, but would translate beautifully as well with a solid tone.

Overall, I was so incredibly pleased with the outcome of my shawl, and can’t wait to use it during cooler weather!

If you haven’t checked out Modesty By Laura, you should! She writes both crochet and knit patterns which are always clearly written and easy to follow! Make sure to visit her website, Etsy, and Ravelry!
