This cute and quick knit beanie pattern is named after the little button-like stitches placed throughout the pattern. This beanie looks sweet with a solid colour or variegated yarn and can be further embellished with a fun pom on top!

Difficulty: Advanced Beginner
Size: 8 inches high x 6.5 inches at the brim
Gauge: Ribbing- 1 inch= 6.5 stitches x7.5 rows blocked
Hat- 1 inch= 5 stitches x6 rows blocked
Materials:
Needles: US 6/ 4.00 mm and US 7/4.50 mm 16-inch circular needles, 4.5 mm DPNs (double pointed needles)
Yarn: 130-135 yrds worsted weight yarn (I used Lion Brand Heartland in Wolf Trap)
Embroidery Needle
Scissors

Stitches and Abbreviations
CO- Cast On
K- knit
P- Purl
Yo- yarn over
MK- Make knot (see other notes for instructions)
Wyif- with yarn in front
Wyib- with yarn in back
Sl st- slip stitch
LH- left hand
P3tog- purl 3 together
K2tog- knit 2 together
BO- Bind Off
Other Notes:
MK (make knot): Wyif p3tog leaving these stitches on LH needle, then wyib k the same 3 stitches together, then wyif p3tog again and sl sts from LH needles
Knit loosely when doing the MK stitches

Using 4.0 mm, CO 90 st with 1×1 ribbing
R 1-30: (k1, p1) around to create ribbed brim
Switch to 4.5 mm needles
R31-34: knit around
R35: (k7, MK) repeat around
R36-44: knit
R45: (k2, MK, k5) repeat around
R46-50: knit around
R51-56: Repeat R31-36
R57: (k2tog, k8) repeat around (81 st)
R58: knit around
R59: (k2tog, k7) repeat around (72 st)
R60: knit around
R61: (k2tog, k6) repeat around (63 st)
Switch to DPNs
R62: knit around
R63: (k2tog, k5) repeat around (54 st)
R64: knit around
R65: (k2tog, k4) repeat around (43 st)
R66: knit around
R67: (k2tog, k3) repeat around (32 st)
R68: knit around
R69: (k2tog, k2) repeat around (27 st)
R70: knit around
R71: (k2tog, k) repeat around (18 st)

R73: (k2tog) repeat around (9 st)
BO and weave in ends
With a long yarn tail and a needle, go through each stitch connected to your needles and pull tight to cinch the top of the beanie together. Sew back and forth several times through the top to secure it in place.
Optional: Attach a pom to the top of your beanie
