first time you heard about the mythical Unicorn Teddy? Yeah, me neither, but
this little girl is certainly a legend with her wild mane and sparkly wings. She’ll
never be tamed!

Materials
- CLOVER 1043/E Magenta Amour Crochet Hook, Size E, 3.5mm (I also like this 10 hook set Clover 3672 Amour Crochet Hook Set )
- Yarn: Worsted Weight: Approx. 120 yards-white, fur colour, pink, silver, various colours for mane and tail (or variegated yarn)
- 10 mm Safety Eyes or Embroidered Eyes (you can find safety eyes on Amazon, Etsy, or at your local craft store)
- Brown Embroidery Thread
- Polyfill
- Needle
- Scissors

Magic Ring alternative- If you do not feel comfortable doing a magic ring, you can also chain 2 and work the indicated number of stitches into the first chain.
Head Cap- Depending on how firmly your head is stuffed/your personal tension and choice of yarn, you may find you need to add or remove a row when making the Head Cap. Check how the Head Cap fits when you get to the last couple of rows to determine whether you need to alter the total number of rows.
Continuous Rounds– All components are worked in continuous rounds.
Colour Change– When changing from one colour to another, in your final SC stitch after you have 2 loops on your hook, pull through with your new colour.

Muzzle:
In white colour yarn:
R1: 6 SC into MR, SL ST to first stitch (6 st)
R2: INC SC around, SL ST to first stitch (12 st)
FO, leaving a long tail for weaving. Stitch on nose and mouth in shape that you prefer. See image further below for nose and mouth stitching.
Head:
In fur colour yarn:
R1: 6 SC into MR (6 st)
R2: INC SC around (12 st)
R3: (SC, INC SC) x6 (18 st)
R4: (2 SC, INC SC) x6 (24 st)
R5: (3 SC, INC SC) x6 (30 st)
R6: (4 SC, INC SC) x6 (36 st)
R7-R13: SC around (36 st)

Insert safety eyes between rows 10 and 11, 8 stitches apart. Before attaching backings, check that the muzzle you made previously will fit between the eyes. Adjust eye placement accordingly and add washers to the back.
R15: (3 SC, INV DEC) x6 (24 st)
Start stuffing and continue stuffing for subsequent rounds, making sure you firmly stuff the head
R16: (2 SC, INV DEC) x6 (18 st)
R17: (SC, INV DEC) x6 (12 st)
FO and weave in yarn ends. Pin muzzle between safety eyes, with the top of the muzzle in line with the top of the eyes. Sew to the head and weave in ends.
Head Cap:
In white colour yarn:

Depending on how firmly your head is stuffed and yarn used, you may find you need to add or take away a row when completing the final rows. Check the fit of the head cap as you make your final rows and adjust accordingly.
R7-R17: SC around (36 st)
SL ST to first ST and FO, leaving a very long tail for sewing. Place the cap on the head with the opening at the front of the face and covering the bottom opening of the head, and pin in place. With a needle and leftover yarn, sew the cap to the head, weaving in and out every few stitches, repeating several times around the head. Weave in ends.
Ears: (make 2)
In fur colour yarn:
R1: 6 SC into MR (6 st)
R2: INC SC (12 st)
R3-4: SC around (12 st)
FO, leaving tail of yarn for sewing. Flatten ears and pin to the head cap around R14 (or in a position you like) on either side of the head, giving them a bit of a curve. Sew ears to head cap, making sure to go through both the cap and head so that they are firmly secured.
Horn:
In silver colour yarn:
R1: 4 SC into MR (4 st)
R2: SC around (4 st)
R3: 3 SC, INV SC (5 st)
R4: SC around (5 st)
R5: 4 SC, INC SC (6 st)
SL ST to 1st ST of the last row and FO, leaving a yarn tail for sewing. Pin to the top of the head, approximately 1 row back from the edge of the cap, evenly spaced between the ears. Sew in place and weave in the ends.
Body:
In white colour yarn:
R1: 6 SC into MR (6 st)
R2: INC SC around (12 st)
R3: (SC, INC SC) x6 (18 st)
R4: (2 SC, INC SC) x6 (24 st)

Stuff tip of hand lightly

To close, pinch sides closed and 4 SC across through top of stitches of both sides. FO, leaving length of yarn. Pin the arms in place and sew on. Weave in ends.
Start stuffing and continue to stuff for subsequent rounds.
R5-9: SC around (8 st).
To close, pinch sides closed, and 4 SC across through top of stitches of both sides. Finish off, leaving length of yarn. Pin the arms to either side of the body and sew in place. Weave in the ends.
Legs: (make 2)
In pink colour yarn:
R1: 6 SC into MR (6 st)
R2: INC SC around (12 st)
R3: In BLO, SC around (12 st)
Switch to white colour yarn:
R4: SC around (12 st)
R5: (4 SC, INV DEC) x2 (10 st)
Start stuffing and continue to stuff for subsequent rounds.

Wings: (make 2)
This is worked in rows. The CH 1 does not count as a stitch.
In pink colour yarn:
R1: CH 6, SC in 2nd and every following stitch across (5 st)
R2: CH 1, turn. 5 SC (5 st)
R3: CH 1, turn. 5 SC, 3 SC down side of wing, CH 3 (8 st, 3 CH)
R4: Turn. SC in 2nd CH from hook and the following stitch. 2 SC, INC SC, 5 SC (11 st)
R5: CH 1, turn. SC2TOG, 9 SC, CH 3 (10 st, 3 CH)
R6: Turn. SC in 2nd CH from hook and the following stitch. 8 SC, SC2TOG (11 st)
R7: CH 1, turn. 11 SC, CH 3 (11 st, 3 CH)
R8: Turn. SC in 2nd CH from hook and the following stitch. 11 SC. (13 st)
Now, INC SC in the corner and SC evenly down the inside edge of the wing. FO, leaving a shorter yarn tail for the first wing, and a longer tail for the second wing. On the first wing, weave in the ends. Line up the two wings so the inner edges are against each other, and using the leftover yarn tail from the second wing, sew the edges together.
You can now choose how you wish to connect the wings to your bear.
Permanent, Sewed on Wings
Pin the centre of the wings to the back of your bear’s body, around rounds 7-12. Sew the wings in place and weave in the ends.
Arm Straps for Removable Wings
To make the arm straps (x2), CH 14 and SL ST to the 1st CH. FO, leaving a length of yarn for sewing. Position your wings behind your bear and line the straps up with upper arms, sewing the straps onto the wings. Weave in the ends.
Mane:
Cut a series of 3.5 inch lengths of yarn, or just a bit more than double the length that you wish your mane to be. My unicorn teddy uses 32 pieces of yarn.
Take two pieces of yarn and fold in half, forming a loop. Stitch your hook through a stitch at the top of the teddy’s head, and pull your loop through. Next, pull the yarn ends through your loop and pull tight, making a knot. Repeat with as many pieces of yarn as you like down the back of the head. Pull the yarn apart to make it fuzzy and trim to the desired length.
Tail:
Cut a series of 6 inch lengths of yarn, or just a bit more than double the length that you wish your tail to be. My unicorn teddy uses 9 pieces of yarn.
Take three pieces of yarn and fold in half, forming a loop. Stitch your hook through a stitch at the back of your teddy where you wish the tail to be, and pull your loop through. Next, pull the yarn ends through your loop and pull tight, making a knot. Repeat with as many pieces of yarn as you like until the tail is a desired thickness. Pull the yarn apart to make it fuzzy and trim to the desired length.
