Other Notes:
Rows– All components are worked in rows.
CH 1 – Does not count as a stitch.
Starting tail– when making your starting chain for the teabag, leave a tail that is 3-4 inches long. You will use this tail later to sew up one side of your teabag.
Pattern:
Teabag:
CH 1 does NOT count as a stitch
In beige colour yarn:
R1: CH 8, starting in the 2nd CH from the hook, 7 SC (7 st)
R2-12: CH 1, turn. 7 SC (7 st)
FO and leave a tail that is several inches long for sewing later.
Place your safety eyes between rows, 5 stitches apart. Lil Teabag’s eyes are placed between R 10+11, Lil Green Tea’s eyes are placed between R 9+10, and Lil Chamomile’s eyes are placed between R 8+9. After placing the eyes, attach the washers to the back.
Optional
If you are concerned about the backs of your safety eyes being too long and poking through the other side of your teabag, an option is to melt them down a bit. Using a lighter, carefully hold it up to the end of your safety eye until it starts to melt. When still warm, press the side of the lighter against the tip of the safety eye to push it down (see accompanying photo). If you opt to do this please be careful.
Sew a mouth on between the eyes using black embroidery thread or yarn.
Add pink cheeks below the eyes.
In white colour yarn:
Fold the teabag in half lengthwise, so the top of the stitches of R12 line up with the starting chain from R1 and insert your hook through the last stitch from R12 and the lined up chain. Pull through the white yarn, and CH 1.
R13: SC across through both the stitches of R 12 and the lined up chain row (7 st)
R14: CH 1, turn. 7 SC (7 st)
R15: SC2TOG, 3 SC, SC2TOG (5 st)
R16: 5 SC (5 st)
R17: SC2TOG, SC, SC2TOG (3 st)
FO, leaving about 10 inches of yarn (or as long as you would like your bookmark to be, plus a few extra inches). Fold the top of the teabag forward, between R15 and R16, and sew in place, using the white yarn tail. Then, weave the yarn tail up through the top of the teabag.
Using a leftover beige yarn tail from making the bottom of the teabag, sew one side of your teabag up and lightly stuff the teabag to your liking. Then, sew the other side up with the other yarn tail and weave in the ends.
With a small amount of grey yarn, stitch a line across the top of the teabag.
