Colby the Cow

Moo-ve out of the way! Here comes Colby the Cow, ready for a day of fun. Some of his favourite activities include munching on natural fibers, wandering in the yarn bin, and running around so his bell rings! Cows do enjoy the company of others, so maybe you’ll make a whole herd of them to keep Colby company?

R8: 2 SL ST, SC, 4 HDC, SC, 2 SL ST

FO, leaving a length of yarn for sewing. You will notice that one side of the end of the legs is longer than the other, created by the HDC stitches in the last 2 rounds.  When you pin your legs to the body, place them so the longer part of the edge is along the outer edge of the body and the shorter edge closer to the middle, around rounds 4-6.

Tail:

To make a longer or shorter tail, just add or take away from the total number of rounds

In white colour yarn:

R1: 4 SC into MR (4 st)

R2-5: SC around (4 st)

SL ST to the first ST of the last round and FO, leaving a tail for sewing on.

To make a tuft on your tail take one or two 2-inch pieces of black yarn and fold in half, forming a loop. Slide your hook through a stitch from the first row, and pull a loop through. Next, pull the yarn ends through your loop and pull tight, making a knot. Pull the yarn apart to make it fuzzy and trim to the desired length. Repeat with as many pieces of yarn as you like!

Spots: (make 5, or however many spots you would like to have on your cow)

In black colour yarn:

R1: 6 SC into MR (6 st)

SL ST to the first ST of the last round, leaving a tail for sewing on. Pin spots onto your cow, several on the front, back, and the head and sew all the way around each spot, weaving in the ends.

 Embellishments:

At this point, you can add any extras to your cow to complete him! You might want to add a tuft to the top of your cow’s head (follow the same instructions as for putting a tuft on the tail). You can also add a ribbon around your cow’s neck, complete with a little bell so you can find him if he wanders away from the rest of the amigurumi herd!
