Other Notes

Magic Ring Alternative- If you do not feel comfortable doing a magic ring, you can also chain 2 and work the indicated number of stitches into the first chain.

Continuous Rounds– This pattern is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise indicated.

Canvas– If you are using a softer yarn, you may want to put a round piece of canvas or fabric that is slightly smaller in diameter than the base to help it retain the flat bottom. I did not find this necessary with my yarn, but some testers found it helpful. You could alternatively make a circle that is slightly smaller in diameter than the base of the teapot by following R1-4 for the pot and put it in the bottom of the pot.

SC2TOG vs INV DEC– This pattern calls for both SC2TOG and INV DEC. You can do one or other for any of the stitches, but I would recommend SC2TOG for the last row of the teapot.

Teapot

R6: In BLO, SC around (30 st)

R7: (4 SC, INC SC) x6 (36 st)

R8: SC around (36 st)

R9: (5 SC, INC SC) x6 (42 st)

R10: SC around (42 st)

R11: (6 SC, INC SC) x6 (48 st)

R12-15: SC around (48 st)

R16: (6 SC, INV DEC) x6 (42 st)

R17: SC around (42 st)

R18: (INV DEC, 5 SC) x6 (36 st)

R19:  SC around (36 st)

R20: (4 SC, INV DEC) x6 (30 st)

R21: In the FLO, SC around (30 st)

Here we will stop to attach the facial features and tea top. Do not finish off yet!

Place the 9 mm safety eyes between R12 & 13, 7 stitches apart and attach the backings. With a needle and small amount of pink yarn, add small rectangular cheeks one stitch underneath the eyes. Finally, with a needle and embroidery thread, sew on a mouth between the two eyes on R12 (see photo for further guidance).

You will now attach the ‘tea top’ that you crocheted first. Line up the stitches of the final row of the tea top with the unworked back loops from R21 of the teapot. Wip stitch through the top and back loops, pausing once you get to 2/3 around the pot to begin stuffing. To ensure there are no lumps, make sure to stuff the teapot with small pieces of polyfill at a time instead of large chunks. Be careful not to overstuff near the top of the pot so that the tea top stays fairly flat. Continue stuffing as you wip stitch around the rest of the cup. Weave in the ends.

You will now go back to finishing the last round of your teapot, which forms the top of the pot, on which your lid will rest.

R22: In the BLO, (SC, SC2TOG) x10 (20 st)

SL ST to the first SC of the previous row and FO. Weave in ends.

Spout

When you make your magic ring, leave a slightly longer than usual tail. This tail will be used a couple rows down to help shape the top of the spout. You can also use another piece of blue yarn if your tail isn’t long enough.

In blue colour yarn:

R1: 6 SC into MR (6 st)

R2: (SC, INC SC) x3 (9 st)

R3-8: SC around (9 st)

Pause here, but do not FO yet! Push down the tip of your spout so that it creates a little indent, far enough down that R4 becomes the tip of your spout. With the starting tail and a needle, sew in and out a few times around R6/7 so that the spout indentation is anchored in place and doesn’t pop out.

R9: 3 INC HDC, SC, 2 INV DEC, SC (10 st)

R10: 2 HDC, 2 INC HDC, 2 HDC, SC, 2 SL ST, SC (12 st)

R11: SC around (12 st)

SL ST to the first SC of the previous row and FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Stuff the spout and pin to the left side of your teapot, around R12-16, approximately 6 stitches back from the eyes and sew in place. Weave in the ends.

Handle

In blue colour yarn:

R1: CH 30, HDC in the 3rd chain from the hook and all remaining stitches across (28 st)

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Pin the end of the handle with the tail ends to the top of the teapot, about 6 stitches back from the right eye around R17-19, and sew in place, weaving in the ends. With the other end of the handle, roll it up slightly (as seen in the finished picture), and pin in place just above the base of the teapot. With a new piece of yarn and needle, sew it in place and weave in the ends.

Lid

In blue colour yarn:

R1: 6 SC into MR (6 st)

R2: (SC, INC SC) x3 (9 st)

R3: SC around (9 st)

R4: (SC, INV DEC) x3 (6 st)

R5: INC SC x6 (12 st)

R6: (SC, INC SC) x6 (18 st)

R7: SC around (18 st)

R8: (2 SC, INC SC) x6 (24 st)

R9: (INC SC, 3 SC) x6 (30 st)

SL ST to the first SC of the previous row and FO. You can choose to either weave in the ends OR sew a few stitches along the edge of the lip to the top of the teapot at row 21, on the same side of the pot as where you plan to attach the handle.
